There is hope for the Eagles

Everything seemed hopeless after the Eagles third straight loss last weekend, which dropped them to 4-4 heading into the bye week.

But after a day of upsets, there is room to hope.

Of coarse, the Eagles will need to come out and win at least six of its last eight games, which includes three straight division road games. Not to mention games against Indianapolis, Carolina, and Atlanta.

It sure is not going to be easy.

But the Eagles got a little bit of help today.

Most importantly, division rival Dallas lost in a whacky game to the Washington Redskins, which dropped the Cowboys to 4-4. Because of the Eagles win over Dallas (their last victory), the Eagles are a half game ahead of the Cowboys. Washington has only three wins. The Redskins had a chance to take the game late in the fourth quarter but missed a 49-yard field goal. Dallas drove down, only to have a 28-yard field goal blocked as time expired. Washington ran the ball back and the Cowboys were penalized 15-yards for a face mask, which set up a game winning 47-yarder.

The Giants won, but only by four points over inferior Houston. Atlanta dropped to 5-3 after losing to Detroit, and St. Louis fell to 4-4.

So there is hope afterall. As it stands, six teams in the NFC have higher winning percentages.

This much I am sure of - the Eagles will have to earn their way in. But they are capable of making a run. They have the talent.

It's either going to be an exciting winter or a long winter.

When the Eagles take the field next week against Washington, the fate of the team will begin to unfold.

For the sake of Philadelphia fans, let's hope things move in the right direction.
